My Project
My students come from low income homes and our school is considered a Title I school. While this designation does provide funding for our program, next year that funding is looking to be slashed.
AVID is a program that helps build community and a family atmosphere in the classroom.
My students participate in many teambuilding activities that require materials that are not usually provided in a general middle school classroom.
These students spend their first year in AVID learning how to prepare themselves for high school and beyond, and by having a class that feels like family, they work together to make sure everyone succeeds and no one is left behind. This sets up these students for 6th, 7th, 8th grade and beyond.
