About My Students

We are the co-ed varsity swim team at A. L. High School. We are a title 1 school with 100% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch.

We are trying to raise funds for warm-ups to wear to our meets as we do not have any available to us. We would like to look like a team when we enter the pools for meets and be recognizable in school as a team so that we can recruit more swimmers for future teams. Unfortunately, we are not provided with uniforms as it is just not in the budget. Please help us look like the team we are as we kick off our new season.

Students who join the swim team will learn to work together and support each other. They will build endurance and physical fitness skills and they will develop stronger swimming skills, something that many students living in the city don't have. We don't turn kids away from our team, even if they are not yet swimming at competition level. We embrace them where they are and teach them to swim! Having team jackets will help us look and feel more like a team.

In Their Own Words

We are trying to build team spirit and to support students in learning to swim or developing their swimming skills. As a high school that is less than a mile from a major river, learning to swim is a life skill. As an urban school, we feel fortunate to have a pool and want to build our swim team into a major sport in the school building.

We, as students want to create a team feeling. Our baseball, basketball and football teams all have matching uniforms and warm-ups for the chilly days. We don't have those things and want to create a team spirit among swimmers. We want to be visible in the school as a team to build morale and recruit future swimmers!

The swim team is not visible and our pool is in an outbuilding on our campus, so that doesn't help. We want to create a team spirit among students who want to swim. We want to create a cohesive team image when we travel to and from swim meets.
