Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of diligent, inspiring, and creative fourth graders with big hearts and analytical minds. They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new, to discuss what they think, and take pride in their efforts. My students learn in a bilingual community with a high level of family support. They attend our school with growing technology opportunities that enhance their approach, application, and articulation of their knowledge and their new learning. We balance this with creativity and physical opportunities with that support the development of persistence, teamwork, and determination.
My Project
My students enjoy the social and active opportunities during our physical education blocks and want to reach their team goals as much as possible. When we execute team activities, we sometimes struggle to keep track of who is on which team. This is especially true with more challenging competitions. We need different colored pinnies to allow students to easily track which students are on which team. This accommodation would allow for more active fitness as they do not need to try to remember or figure out who is on their team for the temporary challenge. This is especially important when we rotate or switch multiple times during the class period.
There are many benefits of team building in Physical Education through physical challenges.
Teamwork promotes cooperation and cohesiveness while making friendly competition motivating. Individuals achieve when they feel part of a team. Often a successful experience playing on a team may provide venues for positive social interactions and the building of friendships. Interactive opportunities grow and are nurtured. In addition, team experiences promotes communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, risk taking, and affirmations. Students become stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically. Team efforts increase participants personal confidence, increases mutual support within a group, and develops an increased level of agility and physical coordination
Please consider supporting the team players in my classroom who pursue opportunities to work in flexible teams to collaborative challenge themselves and each other as they work together to find success individually and as part of a team.
