This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Fifth grade is the year that health class takes a whole new toll on both students and teachers.
Students are experiencing physical, emotional, and mental changes; some changes that they can see and understand, and some that they cannot.
The curriculum we use to teach students about their bodies and their bodily functions is user-friendly and allows students to grasp concepts in a familiar way, such as reading a graphic novel. However, I would like to elevate their health class experience with these materials by beginning to expose them to the anatomy of their body systems. I also want them to participate in class or home experiments that allow them to see and feel their body doing its job (i.e. pumping blood, breathing flexing, etc.). These hands-on experiences will then help my students have a deeper understanding of how their bodies work.
