This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kids today are definitely digital learners. I had a student last year on the first day of school come in and sit down at my computer looking for games to play. Growing up with movies and video games-it's how their brains are now wired to learn.

I teach very bright, very curious students.

They love to learn about anything and everything. Most of my students come from homes where English is not the primary language and our school is located in an area with a depressed economy. They enjoy learning how to read in Kindergarten but often struggle with the fundamentals.

My Project

You could help us give these kids an opportunity to learn the best way for them. We would use the Smartboard software in our workstations-the kids love playing the games (and are actually better at figuring out the rules than I am). I requested games for reading and for math so it would give them more opportunities to practice in that digital way. I would use the 10 mp3 players to record stories and allow the students to take them home to listen to or listen to individually in the classroom. Many parents today just don't have time to read to their children every day. This way someone is definitely reading to them. It also helps our ESL kiddos with their grammar and vocabulary. I would use the laptop for an innovative technique that is cropping up a lot in education. It's called a "flipped" classroom. The students view digital lessons that I record or find online. The best part is the instruction is tailored just for their learning level.

This donation would make a huge impact in our classroom.

The children learn best in a digital format and you would be giving me the tools to really be able to reach them in the way they learn. My students eyes light up any time I use any kind of technology in lessons, giving them an opportunity to use it every day would be appreciated greatly by my kiddos.
