This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a room full of six and seven year olds sitting quietly on the rug staring at one small computer screen to listen to interactive stories and hands on reading lessons. Although they try very hard, this is extremely challenging! Some cannot hear or see what is on the tiny screen.

My students come from various backgrounds and all share an amazing love for reading.

Many students' families struggle to make ends meet but they try their best to help their children become successful students. In addition, I have students with vision and hearing impairments that make it difficult to use the small, computer screen.

My Project

With this iPad mini and projector, the students will be able to use it in addition to an iPad mini from a previously funded project. During station time (centers), the pair of students will each get to use individualized reading applications the entire time instead of sharing one iPad mini. Additionally, the projector will be used during whole group lessons to project the hands on, interactive reading lessons that are a part of our new technology-infused reading series. All students will be able to see the screen from their seats or the rug without any issues. Furthermore, all students will participate in the interactive lessons using the computer or iPad connected to the projector. I am already using the other iPad mini to read e-books, practice sight words, and practice their reading fluency and comprehension in their own accounts.

Having a projector will allow me to teach with the technology that many other students have in their classrooms.

The big books we have that are only online can be enjoyed the way they were meant to be. I can only imagine the look on my students' faces when they are able to see everything enlarged using the projector. They already perk up at the mere thought of using the computer. Using it connected to the projector will only increase their motivation as will having two iPad minis to use!
