Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a Title 1 school and my students are 98% Hispanic and 96% economically disadvantaged. However, they out perform many students throughout Texas on standardized tests.
Our community was recently impacted by Hurricane Harvey and in fact we started school two weeks late.
Despite the challenges my students are driven to succeed and willing to give 110%.
Many of them are English Language Learners and stay after school and come on Saturdays in order to advance to the next level. I would like to give them every opportunity to be as successful students from more affluent areas. They are hardworking.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to technology at home so in order to be technologically savvy and create global learners they need access to more computers in the classroom. In high school, they will each receive a laptop, but I would like for my 8th graders to get some practice on them now. Therefore, I'm requesting two laptops for classroom use. Students will be able to rotate through as we work in stations.
My students will use the computers in order to create digital projects using Google Drive and to reflect on the literature we study in class.
I'm also requesting a class set of headphones so that my students can use them when we check out iPads for classroom use.
My goal is to give them the same opportunities that more affluent learners have in order to help them succeed.
