Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First graders have often experienced so little of the world and are so anxious to learn all about it! Technology helps children learn its importance in our modern world as well as betters learning in all other areas. The possibilities with technology in our first grade classroom would be endless!
My first grade students are very interested in everything going on around them.
They are always asking why, what, or how questions. They are very involved in trying to find out about the world they live in!
Technology is a great way to help them explore! For many of the students at our lower income school, the use they get with computers, projectors, cameras, etc. while at school is the only interaction with technology they get. Other districts in our area have the funds to provide this technology for their classrooms. Sadly with our school being a charter school, it is not funded the same as district schools. The more resources we have available for the students, the better their learning experiences will be!
My Project
My first graders watch and wait daily as I write and draw examples on the board of the exact work they have in front of them just so we can go over it together as a group. Now while they are interested in learning, they are also 6 and so their attention spans are not always very long.
With the use of a document camera, I would be able to project the image of the student work on the board and work directly from there. Students would see me modeling their work on the exact same paper that they were using.
My students would be able to have so many more visual learning experiences with all of the things we could project! We could discuss handwriting samples, how to write a sentence, show artwork, learn to read maps, display pages from informational books, do some shared reading with class books. The list is endless! The use of a document camera would open up so many possibilities for my class!
Through the use of a document camera my students will be able to see the importance of technology in our ever-changing society, as well as use it to enhance learning in all academic areas.
Please help us have these important learning experiences!
