Bright eyed, eager to please faces are what I am accustomed to seeing everyday. I teach kindergarten in a rural West Virginia community. I have a fortunate situation in that I teach at the same elementary school I too attended as a child. My students mostly represent low income households with little to no exposure to the world outside of their own community. Yet, they bring with them a desire to learn and it is my opportunity as their first classroom teacher to make learning an enjoyable, exciting and fun filled experience.
As I mentioned before, limited exposure to the outside world is a major challenge for most of my students. When introducing a new concept especially topics from other cultures it is difficult to activate prior knowledge and make connections that students can grasp.
We do not have a television for our classroom. I know that a television used for educational purposes would further extend the learning for my students. As an extension to learning, videos would serve as a virtual tool to open a world unknown to most of the students in my class.
Although many of my students may not have the opportunity to travel and explore different regions or lands your donation would make a meaningful difference in their lives. Their understanding of the world would be broader and hopefully they would gain a more global perception of their own community. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
A Caring Kindergarten Teacher
