How can one teach a Video Production Program without even one video camera? Well, that's what I've been trying to figure out for a little over a year now. I have been appointed to teach such a course at a school that is transitioning from a middle school to a high school.
The district started me off great with a nice new computer lab filled with new iMac computers, so I have been focusing primarily on video editing software.
My Video Production program is one of the new programs proposed to get the students engaged in the environment and help them achieve in their core subject areas such as Science, English, and Global Studies. The new career and technical education program also aims at preparing students to pursue a career in the fields of Film Production, Marketing and Broadcast Journalism.
I am requesting two Mini DV Video cameras to teach some basics about the language of film, and it will be used to teach countless classes of students who pass through this career and technology program. Each year many students in the building will be taking my course, and some will be in the program all four years of high school. This year for example I have approximately 300 students.
