My Students
Can you imagine teaching a group of students with almost no working technology in a twenty-first century classroom? We have no access to a classroom computer to meet a multitude of needs for my students.
*You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go.*ÃÂÃÂ- Dr. Seuss
I have this quote on our classroom wall as motivation for the children. An important part of their journey means becoming technology-literate and learning English for many of them. My students are from different non-English speaking backgrounds and most of them don't have access to computers in their homes.
The Samsung laptops have bright and vivid screens and in a classroom full of Children with Special Needs and English Language Learners this is important because so much of their learning depends upon visual support of the curriculum. Access to laptops will support these visual learners as well as ESL students because they will be able to access educational websites specifically targeted for our population in an engaging manner.
My Project
The Samsung Chromebooks I've selected were thoughtfully chosen since they will incur a high volume of use in my classroom amongst my students. My students can use them to conduct research, access educational websites to continue to learn English, work collaboratively on class projects, and those who are unable to hold a pencil can use them to take notes during class lessons or discussions.
This technology will augment all curriculum areas and will also allow me to visit translation sites so that I can instruct children in a variety of languages. This would allow me to assist my ELL students with assignments as they continue to gain comprehension of the English language.
If my students receive these laptops, they will be able to do more in our classroom.
Many of them are unable to work with other children because of their disabilities, but somehow, using technology brings them closer together. They can engage in more meaningful individual and partnered learning and further their knowledge across the spectrum.
