This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Third-grader (Noun)
\ˈthərd grā-dər\
- Someone who is a mathematician, reader, writer, artist, scientist, dancer, leader, explorer, and friend
- Someone who NEEDS access to technology and high-quality books
My third graders are curious and they try hard...really hard. They love to read, write, explore, and find answers to questions.
Did you know that they are also BILINGUAL, bicultural, and biliterate? They speak, read, and write in two languages (English and Spanish). That also means that during the school day, they learn in both languages.
My Project
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Marie Curie
Putting high-quality Spanish books in the hands of my students is at the heart of this project. Did you know that READING teaches children about the world around them, improves vocabulary and language skills, and helps children develop empathy/tolerance?
Tolerance is acceptance, openness, and respect for differences. But how do teachers promote this healthy appreciation and respect for these differences that make us so great? Books. We use highly engaging books.
