Teaching the Love of Reading Through Leveled Reading Books.
My students need leveled reading books to improve literacy by having multiple copies of leveled texts for small reading groups. My students need enough copies for everyone.
The students in my classroom are eager learners who are in desperate need of appropriately leveled books for small reading groups.
My students are motivated five and six year old children who come from low income families.
They are minority students at a school located in Baltimore city. They attend a Title One school which serves students from grades pre-kindergarten through grade five. They are eager to come to school and are excited about learning.
My Project
The leveled reading books will be used during my small group reading instruction to teach students skills needed to begin their school career on the right foot by reading successfully. The books will provide my students with the exposure to text that is appropriate for their instructional needs while challenging them to move beyond their current reading level onto more challenging books. My students read at multiple levels in the classroom and the various levels will allow each child to read on their level.
These books will the pathway to a lifelong love of reading because they will be able to read books that are appropriate for each individual student.
These books are a critical part of reading success.
