Teaching the Heart

My students need books and cooperative games in order to help them learn the social skills and gain emotion management skills needed to be successful in school.

My Students

My students all have various disabilities, but they don't let those disabilities hold them back. I teach social skills and emotion management to 50 students, kindergarten through sixth grade; we call it "heart learning." We are in need of books and games to help expand our learning.

My students are amazing learners who face challenges at home and at school due to various disabilities.

Despite these many challenges, my students come to school excited and ready to learn. They love to listen to stories and they love to learn through play.

My Project

With new books and games all focused on social and emotional development, my students will access their "heart learning" in new and exciting ways. Research tells us that students make more progress learning core subjects like math and reading when they also have a strong foundation of social skills and emotional regulation abilities. These new books and cooperative games will help my students develop their social skills and help them to learn to regulate their emotions, which in turn will help increase their learning in other subjects.

Donations to this project will give my students the tools they need to become better students.

Because of these donations my students will be able to learn about kindness, bravery, resiliency and emotion management in new and exciting ways.
