Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am dedicated to providing my students with autism with the tools and skills they need to lead independent and fulfilling lives. My latest initiative is the creation of a Life Skills Lab, designed to simulate a studio apartment complete with a kitchen, bedroom area, dining area, and living space. To bring this vision to life, I am seeking funding for a washer and dryer to support hands-on, experiential learning.

The washer and dryer will be integral to our program, enabling students to learn how to wash clothes and linens—a crucial step toward independence.

Our Life Skills Lab will be a dynamic, interactive learning environment where students can engage in real-world applications of essential life skills.

Students will participate in hands-on activities, such as sorting laundry, operating the washer and dryer, and folding clothes. These tasks will not only teach them practical skills but also enhance their fine motor abilities and follow multi-step instructions. Through project-based interactive learning, students will complete laundry-themed projects that include planning, executing, and reflecting on their work. These projects will encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, as students collaborate with peers to achieve common goals.

This project will have a profound impact on our students. It will help them develop a sense of responsibility and self-reliance, as well as the practical skills necessary for daily living. With these experiences, our students will be better prepared to transition into adulthood, with the potential to live independently and successfully manage their households.
