This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in an large, urban, socioeconomically disadvantaged district. At my school, more than over 80% of our student population receive free or reduced lunch. My student body consists of 73% Latinx/Hispanic, 18% Black/African American, 7% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% White, and 1% Other.
Although my students grow up in rough neighborhoods, they are the most resilient bunch of kids I have seen.
They never let what is going on in life stop them from showing up to school and trying their hardest to succeed. It makes me try harder to be better at my job because of them.
My Project
My students tend to get triggered often and having the tablet to use as a tool to calm down and regroup as we discuss their situations during our counseling sessions would be greatly beneficial.
Having the tablet available in my office during our counseling sessions would allow me to use the calming apps and breathing technique apps to teach my students how to redirect and refocus when they feel upset or nervous.
Often I have to step in and help my teachers at very high stress moments. Having the technology piece to incorporate into my calming exercises with the students would be a wonderful addition to my office as well.
