My Project
This year, I will be going into my 20th year of teaching! One thing that I have been able to refine over the years is how I support students to really understand their own data so they can set realistic goals. Some students enter my school as 6th graders with large gaps in their reading skills. Our educational system has failed many of our students when they enter 6th grade still struggling with decoding polysyllabic words.
Students are invested in their own growth when they understand their own goals and can track their own progress data.
To help my students see their individual data better, spreadsheets and mail merges have been our friends. The extended screen on my laptop will allow me to more easily show students their data and use mail merge to print individualized labels to stick in their notebooks. It is hard to see multiple windows on my laptop, so the extended display makes the whole process smoother. I lead students through reflection as they track and graph their data. Students get excited whenever I print new labels so they can see how much they've grown and set new goals.
