Teaching Students About Robots, Computers, and Computational Thinking

My students need additional Cubelets to create our team-based robotics kits.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, hands-on learners, and are so excited when they can learn about and experiment with engaging technology. Whenever possible, I want to put this technology in their hands so they can create, problem solve, and develop their visual understanding of complex ideas.

We teach approximately 500 students in grades K-5 and this robotics technology will be incorporated into my school-wide technology instruction.

This project will help our students develop their scientific, creative, analytical, problem solving, collaborative, and communication skills in an engaging and meaningful way.

My Project

Through a previous Donors Choose grant, our school purchased a Cubelets robotics kit. Our students' eagerness to explore this technology has been amazing. However, our students are noticeably limited in how many of them can learn with this robotics kits at the same time. This limitation stifles their creativity and ability to learn collaboratively. Through this project, our school will purchase additional Cubelets so we can create four smaller robotics sets, which in turn will mean more of our students will be able to work together and explore this exciting technology.

Technology should drive learning, and these additional Cubelets will do exactly that.

Teaching can be described as both an art and a science, and we know that different learners understand concepts in different ways. "Hands-on" and "minds-on" projects like this can provide remarkably effective learning opportunities through which our students can collaborate, create, explore computational thinking, take calculated risks, and persevere while solving complex technological problems.

STEAM activities like Cubelets robotics have become extremely popular in our elementary school, and with good reason. We want to maintain this momentum because the skills that our students learn through these projects will help them become successful learners. Will you assist them on this important journey?
