My Project

What do educational classrooms look like today? My school has limited technology: a computer, a document camera, and, at times, a smart board. Yet, in the 21st century, students have so much technology available at their fingertips.

Since education got shut down due to COVID-19, my understanding of how to present and learn mathematics has changed.

Students should be able to interact with material instantly and manipulate what they are doing. I want students to be able to analyze each other's work. Using an iPad allows my students to look at students' work/examples and give feedback instantly. We can record speeds and distances and upload this data through the apple TV so we are all using the same information that they collected. Furthermore, I can give the iPad and Apple pen to a student to write their thinking and answers. This allows the student not to be singled out and feel embarrassed to come to the board. The student has the comfort of sitting in their seat and still providing responses. The project I am requesting allows students to become the teachers and presenters in the classroom. COVID-19 took away the ability to interact with one another and complete real-life projects. My goal in my classroom is to be a 21st-century classroom that is focused on problem-based learning. Therefore students will be presenting their work and findings and creating the learning for the mathematics that we are learning. By having an iPad and Apple TV, students have options to create videos/projects and teach each other the math that is needed to be successful. Students need to learn again the idea of collaboration and how to work in a variety of groups.
