My Students
Welcome to our classroom! We are a 4th grade community of learners who embrace learning. My students have diverse educational interests and abilities. They each bring an enthusiasm for learning that must be honored and celebrated.
My hope is to provide an environment that makes learning fun and relevant with a healthy dose of challenge .
Whether it is learning more about a familiar topic or learning something completely new, I want them to know that our bookshelves and baskets have treasures waiting for them to discover and that we have materials that make learning accessible.
My Project
Last year I piloted the Brick Math program while teaching the fractions unit in math. It was a success, but this year I have more students and not enough kits for them to share.
These Lego Brick Math sets make learning math fun, hands-on, and accessible.
The organization of the materials is key to successful management in the lessons. These kits provide that structure.
Here are some of the reflections from my students' journals last year:
"I had so much fun. Awesome hands-on learning experience with the Legos. It was amazing how much more I understood fractions."
"It helped me as a learner."
"Today they were especially fun because I learned how to add unlike denominators. I love adding unlike denominators."
"It helped me see math in a new way. I could understand fractions better than before. It made math a fun experience. It made me eager to do it again."
I am hoping to bring the same level of excitement to this year's class as well as future classes. Thank you in advance for making math fun!
