My students need a class set of write and wipe thin line markers, Guess my number pocket chart kit, complete set of math games, and a number line math activity chart.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a reading teacher who due to budget cuts went back to teach a whole class. Last year ALL of my kids went on to second grade with high reading scores. However, I did struggle with teaching math a bit. I need to find an interesting and fun way to teach math concepts. I really need your help!!!
My school is located in the Bronx.
Usually, all of my students receive free lunch due to their economic statues. Many of my students come from single parent homes where parents work long hours to make a living. Most of my children are of Hispanic origins but you would find different cultures here. I love working with my students because they appreciate any little thing that is done for them.
My Project
Last year, was my first year back in the classroom. I knew how to help my kids become excellent readers but I was a bit apprehensive about teaching math since I haven't taught it in a while. Now, I am ready to face the challenge of teaching math. I want to make math enjoyable and fun for my students. The resources that I saw would REALLY help me do that. My students last year struggled with understanding how to count using a number line. I think that if they see it and interact with it on a daily basis, it would not be as hard to understand. I also saw individual number lines that the students can use to practice counting with. I saw a great math games kit that would allow me to teach math through games.
My project is so important because I believe that first grade is crucial to children.
If they are taught subjects through manipulatives and are having fun, they are more likely to continue to have positive experiences throughout their schooling. Please help me make this possible. I promise you it will make a difference!!!
