This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a 6th grade Social Studies, with special education students in each class in the South Bronx. Some of the students have trouble with their basic reading skills and phonics so they find it difficult to access the texts we use within our Social Studies Curriculum.
My students come from all types of backgrounds, but are 100% minority and 100% get free lunch at school.
They come to school each day and try their very best no matter what types of situations they are living in. Each and everyone of them are lucky to be a part of my school because there is not one adult in this building who does not want each and every student to succeed. With that being said, to see their 6th grade students come to our school at the age of 11, and not know their basic phonics, is heartbreaking. I want to change this and change these students' lives by opening their eyes up to the world of literature.
My Project
By adding an Ipad Air and cover with accessories to my classroom it will allow struggling students to access the world of social studies on different levels. Lower level students will be able to utilize the Ipad Air to assist them in reading social studies materials by being able to chunk the materials in a way they could get a better understanding of it. Students will receive instant feedback. The font size can be increased to assist students who need to view words in larger formats. The possibilities are endless with the use of an Ipad Air.

By helping to donate an Ipad Air to my classroom you will help young historians open their minds to how their pasts may affect their future.
They will become more confident in their literacy skills within the Social Studies classroom.
