I need professional development for best instructional practices in reading and writing. I have used some of these programs/interventions in the lower grades and know they'd be beneficial at the middle school level!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My sixth-grade students are some of the most inspiring, kindhearted people I know. It's a growth year for sure as they transition from upper elementary to middle school. Separately, they're pretty unsure of themselves, but together, they are a force to be reckoned with and spark the most vibrant class discussions.
As an educator of special needs students, I am constantly looking for ways to make the on-grade level curriculum more accessible -- and engaging -- for all learners.
Thinking outside the box and presenting the same material my colleagues are in a manner that works best for my diverse set of students is a challenge I love to take on daily!
My Project
Readers are leaders. Books take us beyond our current reality to unfamiliar worlds. The professional development books I'm requesting would help me teach my students how to properly decode words found in print instead of memorizing the unconventional rules of the English language (which always seem to have exceptions!).
Learning the linguistic components of reading would help me develop student writing.
I have Jennifer Serravallo's The Reading Strategies book and it has been SUPER helpful in my guided reading small groups. I'm sure her Writing Strategies book, in conjunction with explicit phonics instruction, would make me a more confident language arts educator and in turn, make my students more confident readers and writers!
