This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 35 second grade students who are eager to learn every day! We are learning virtually, but that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn everything they can. Every morning when we begin class my students tell me they are "so so so happy because I'm in class with my teacher and I get to learn."
I teach a largely ESL population; students who are learning English as a Second Language.
Learning virtually is a challenge for anyone, but learning virtually when you are still learning the language is an extra challenge.
My school is also a STEAM Entrepreneurship Magnet school. This means that we focus on the goal of solving problems as an Entrepreneur while also focusing on incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Every day I am amazed at the complex discussions my students are contributing and their determination to learn!
My Project
I am teaching students virtually, and every morning we meet in a Microsoft Teams meeting. I prepare my lessons before hand to display to them while we are in the meeting. Unfortunately, this has proven to be very difficult to see and watch my students as they share their thoughts while also having my lesson up.
With this laptop I would be able to share my presentations on this device while having my other device open to discuss and observe my students and their work.
Because this device is a touch screen laptop I would be able to modify my presentations in the middle of class to add more ideas based on our conversations, or show more examples to help them understand a difficult concept.
