My Students

Teaching "Financial Literacy" to my students through money, hands-on and interactive resources.

My students are 5 and 6 year olds and they attend a Title I school, where most of them receive free breakfast and lunch.

We are also a culturally diverse school. We have developed a recipe for success. We strive to help meet the needs of every student. By providing backpacks and uniforms to help the students in need. Also, I am very proud of my students for coming to school everyday to learn despite their circumstances at home. My students are the apple of my eye and I enjoy teaching and helping them learn.

My Project

To teach Financial Literacy, I will draw and label on the chart paper the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar and dollar bill. My students will learn the value of money by reviewing it everyday on the chart paper hanging on the stand. I will also use the coins and computer to reinforce the value of money. My students will receive a penny everyday for coming to school. They will place their penny everyday in their class made piggy bank (milk carton). They will have the option to buy something everyday or save their money in their bank until they are ready to use it to purchase something in the class (pencil 1cent, eraser 2cents, ice pop 5cents etc.). I will have them exchange their money, such as if they have five pennies then they will exchange it for a nickel. Also, students will use the computer for interactive learning. For example, students will use Peter Pig's Money Counter to practice sorting and counting coins, to recognize and sort coins based on value and to add up multiple coins.

This project will help my students recognize and learn the value of money and how to spend and save for something that they want in the classroom.

Also, by doing this it will help my students become more financial literacy for the future. So, please consider making an investment in the future of my students. Thank you!
