Teaching Empathy on the Playground

Help me give my students recess equipment (playground balls, basketballs, jump ropes, and storage) that can be used with our Playworks program for all students in grades 1-3!

My Students

Hi, I'm a lower elementary, Montessori-trained teacher within a public school. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Many of them come from low-income homes, but this doesn't stop them from coming to school with smiles on their faces. I am proud to be a part of an urban school district that offers Montessori education as an option to all families. It is amazing to see how my students can progress academically through this hands-on approach to learning.

My Project

Playworks recess programming helps our lower elementary students (grades 1-3) stay active and build valuable social and emotional skills through play. Playworks games and leadership training place an emphasis on engagement, inclusion, empathy, empowerment, community building, and conflict resolution. Since implementing Playworks at our school, we have seen a significant improvement in the quality of play during recess time.

The recess equipment in this project will be used in the Playworks games that our students play.

Specifically, we need high-quality outdoor basketballs, large playground balls, one-person jump ropes, and double dutch jump ropes. I am also requesting a sturdy bag that can be used to carry the balls from the building to the recess area.
