This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach students with special needs in a low income area. Their needs range from Learn Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder. My classroom is specifically for students who need to learn in a self contained environment. This means they need a small classroom of no more than 12 students, a classroom paraprofessional, and modifications to assist them in meeting the learning standards.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!
They love hands-on activities and games that allow them to play without realizing they are learning. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take risks in order to learn. My students never let their disabilities get in their way or meeting learning goals.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. My students are learning about emotions. Mainly they need to learn how to identify feelings within themselves and then how to self-regulate feelings such as excitement, frustration, and disappointment.
Every year my students are able to connect with characters from their books.
I know these books will provide my students with more opportunities to hear from voices they can relate to. My school is a very diverse community. Many of the characters in the books I chose represent who they are. It is essential for my students to be able to engage with the books so they can connect with the characters. I am looking forward to sharing these books with my present class and students in the future.
