Teaching Economics With Hands-On Technology

My students need an iPad to learn about Economics in their community.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. McCaslin's classroom raised $397

This project is fully funded

My Students

My students are working on learning about economics in their community through hands-on learning with the use of an iPads. It is hard for you to get out in our community because of our special challenges, but when we use iPads we can explore a lot of economics area.

Technology makes learning fun!

Help me teach my students important economic concepts with iPads. My school is in a progressively growing rural community with a total enrollment, in kindergarten through 5th grade, of a little over 550 students. The town population is approximately 66,881, with 17 elementary schools in the district. The diversity at our school comes from the different economic levels with approximately 45% of our students receiving free and reduced price lunches. I teach a classroom of students with profound special needs and severe health conditions. They love to explore the world around them while in the process learning how to function in a world that is not always easy for them to deal with. My students love to learn hands-on with technology like iPads and computers.

My Project

My student will use the three iPads with cases as a form of technology to learn vocabulary and see the vocabulary come to life through real life experiences; from making a grocery list, to how to balance money. Student will gain awareness of how economics is in everything we do and that every decision has a cost.

The donation of the iPads with allow my students the chance to experience economics in their community hands-on through technology that they may not have the access to in the home or outside environment.

It is also very hard for my students to go out in the community as a field trip, but they can take virtual field trips with the help of the iPads. So my students can gain the visual, vocabulary, and understanding of banks, markets, and other economic agencies in their community.
