My Students
10th grade at our school is all about developing a historical and global perspective. Sophomores take both World Literature and Global History which exposes them to a broader context of world events while teaching us about how we are all connected as humans.
We are a small school with a big heart.
While we have a STEM focus, humanities and the arts play an important role in our community. Our students are inquisitive and compassionate, always looking to make connections between their own experiences and the experience and knowledge of others. They are future leaders, collaborators, and scientists. They are brave and challenge me every day I step into my classroom. This class has a level of empathy that is unique and humbling and I am always excited to see what they teach me next.
My Project
This class trip will allow the entire 10th grade to travel together this fall to see "He Named Me Malala". It will provide an important frame work for the research projects that will be done later in the semester on an activist. One of the most challenging aspects of growing up is finding your own voice. Malala is an amazing example of courage and purpose. One of my hopes is that these traits are inspired in our 10th graders at a pivotal time in their developments as well as in the world they live in.
Through the experience of seeing Malala's story on film, it will bring to life and create further connections to this amazing teen.
I hope that it will inspire our students to find their own voice, to speak up and speak out, and to have courage. It will also provide the foundation for further work to be done as a learning community as the year progresses.
