Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a school librarian, I positively impact all 550 students in our learning community. One of my goals is to read books that help students learn and understand about compassion. The books I chose serve multiple purposes: windows, mirrors, and doors. Windows because they provide readers with views into worlds, experiences, and perspectives they may not encounter in their own lives. Mirrors to reflect on their own experiences and emotions. Doors to open up new possibilities and opportunities for them.
Books are powerful tools that can enlighten, empathize, and empower readers.
The mini notebooks will help students write notes as we reflect and discuss what we read. They will better understand their role in promoting compassion and social change. I will measure their success by tracking their involvement in initiatives or projects at school. We will also add the books to our library collection using the scanner so that students can check out the books and read them at home or in their classroom. Overall, they will learn about compassion and how to spread it. We'd be grateful for any support.
