This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have always been such a special group because of their eagerness to learn. Children at this age are absorbing so much knowledge and teaching compassion towards others is an essential skill to learn. Young learners at this age learn in a variety of modalities. However, they learn best with hands-on activities.
I plan to use these books to teach them in different ways about showing compassion, empathy, and kindness towards others.
I will teach them what compassion is and then further expose with the use of these books that talk about it. They will learn through books but also with the use of puppets as they can engage in role-play after reading the books. And I will be able to see what they have learned as they use the puppets to show how they can show compassion towards others.
I will also reinforce these skills throughout the day as I will remind them how to treat others. I will also ask them to tell me what compassion is and then brainstorm together the many ways they can show compassion to others at school, home or when they go out in our community. These skills will stay with them for their entire lifetime. Together we can make a difference in their lives.
