This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is ranked as a high poverty school with 99% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. We are an outdoor campus and also do not have a gym. Most of our kids come from single parent or severely dysfunctional homes. Keeping students excited about staying active is very challenging given their difficult homes lives. Moreover, It is more difficult due to the lack of equipment for our students on our campus.

We offer sports such as flag football, soccer, basketball, softball.

Problem is we never have enough jerseys or equipment. Kids normally have to share them or go without use of proper equipment

My Project

I'm requesting this equipment to help give the students an opportunity for success. The equipment will be used as an instructional tool to expand the development and growth of our athletes. My students need a pitching machine and safety net. In trying to build character, grow community and develop work ethic, this equipment is critical to developing confidence and familiarity with the sport.

Our student's who want to play sports have not been given the opportunity to develop their skills or the chance to learn the sport.

Equipment like this will allow our coaches to fundamentally break the sport down so that our kids build confidence and broaden their mental and physical capabilities.

One of our goals is to introduce this sport and give the kids something to commit too. Also showing kids if their skills are nurtured and developed it may be an opportunity for some to get a scholarship for college.
