My Students
My school community is very diverse. We have students on the autism spectrum, as well as students with other learning disabilities. We have students from low-income housing areas. Some students are identified as gifted and talented. The students at my school are growing up and learning in a community of learners from many different backgrounds. This offers the children amazing opportunities to learn.
I want my kids to feel connected to each other, even though we won't always be together in the classroom.
Whether I get to teach my kids in our classroom, or if we continue learning through digital platforms, I am confident that each of them will learn a great deal during this upcoming school year.
My Project
I am excited to read this adaptation of Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds' book by Sonja Cherry-Paul with my students this coming school year. My students will have an opportunity to discuss and learn about the history of racism. Even more, they'll be able to think of their role in creating a more inclusive future for our country and our world.
Teaching kids to be antiracist is essential.
Kids are the future of our world and I believe it is my job to prepare them to think critically and understand history as a way to prepare them for the future. Through group and whole class discussions, my students will be able to share ideas with each other and better understand the history of racism.
