Teaching Anti-Racism to Kindergarteners

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school in California. My students are ethnically diverse and our student population qualifies for free breakfast, lunch, and supper. My students are inquisitive, cooperative kindergarteners who love school. They come to school with big smiles, ready to learn.

My students and I connect daily through Zoom class since we are fully remote at this time.

All of my students attend class and participate in lessons. We focus our time on teaching and learning all of the Kindergarten standards and also Social Emotional Education with a focus on inclusion and respect and appreciation for diversity.

My Project

I am so fortunate to help my students learn to appreciate their diverse ethnic identities while at the same time teaching them to have respect, appreciation, and sensitivity for their peers who may be ethnically different.

It is imperative to teach Anti-racism to our youngest learners.

Kindergarten is the first educational experience for most of my students. It is a critical time when children start forming opinions about the world they live in. The materials in this project will help my students learn to be proud of who they are and where they come from while at the same time learning about other cultures.
