My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds but have limited opportunities to see themselves and their families reflected in our classroom's play materials. This impacts self-esteem, cultural awareness, and language development as children don't see their own experiences reflected in their learning environment. Despite these limitations, my students are incredibly curious, imaginative, and eager to learn about themselves and the world!
Creating a learning environment that fosters inclusivity, empathy, and respect for diversity is important.
Through play, students will learn to recognize and appreciate differences. This experience will foster empathy and understanding, teaching them to embrace diversity and promote a more inclusive classroom culture. Exposure to multi-ethnic dolls will also help expand children's cognitive horizons. They will learn new vocabulary, create more complex stories, and engage in deeper imaginative play.
