My Students

This year is a little bit different than my 15 years teaching in the past. This 2021-2022 school year, I will be back in the building, after being away for the past year and a half. I am working on setting up my classroom to keep kids distanced and safe. I want my students to have the same experience learning as they would in front of me in a classroom without a pandemic. My remote classroom will consist of about 30 students, from a Title I-funded, mixed-income, diverse neighborhood, learning from home, who have not had a normal school experience in over a year and a half.

Many of these students have parents who are first responders or essential workers, and distance learning and this pandemic was very hard for them academically and socially.

Some of them who have parents that must go to work will be cared for by grandparents or babysitters. Of these 32 students, many of their kindergarten experiences were cut short in March 2020, when NYC schools went remote. They come from diverse backgrounds. Many of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) and many of them have IEPs to meet their needs.

My Project

I am hoping that I can acquire a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. With this gift card I will purchase grade level, standards-based materials to help meet the needs of my diverse learners.

With this gift card, I plan on purchasing more games, so that my students can interact with each other and learn the materials in a different way.

I want to buy resources to scaffold for my struggling learners and enrich my on-standard students. The students will benefit and learn in many different ways.
