This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a high need school. I love my job and I love my students; I teach bilingual 3rd graders how to read, write and speak in English. For many of them I am their first American teacher. We strive everyday to be successful and reach our goals. I hope to make our classroom a reflection of their hard work and dedication. I hope you will contribute to that dream!
As a bilingual teacher I struggle with available resources and materials. I feel sad that I am not able to give all my students individual books, but the reality is that the budget is strained and the resources limited. Even though I try my best to give them what they need, I realize that we have some limitations. The copier in our school is not available to teachers. Many times I need to make copies of material for my bilingual students and I can't. My students are missing out on great information and tools that can help them learn. It is extremely difficult for children to learn a new language and many times they need tangible resources in order to fully understand a concept.
A copier would be a great asset in our classroom. I will have the ability to make copies for my students without having to wait. I can make copies of resources and materials that will help in lessons. My students will have copies of words, letters and other information that will make their learning easier. The copier will also allow us to make copies of work they have completed. It will make learning easier, faster and more fun for the students.
To many a copier doesn't seem like a tool that a teacher would need in order to make learning possible in a classroom. But considering the limited resources a bilingual teacher has, a copier is the best tool to make information and material available to students. It will make learning more fun, more interactive and reach deeper within the minds of my students. A copier will allow for a better learning environment. There will be no waiting, no sharing resources and learning will be at our fingertips.
