My Project
Hey, all! My name's Meg, and I teach freshman English and AP Seminar. In these summer months, I'm often found wearing a silly baseball cap. I'm so glad you stopped by my project page!
Students at MHS come from all walks of life, and the responsibilities they carry sometimes make it hard to focus at school.
In our room, we have what we call the Everything Cart, a space where kids throughout the school know they can find snacks, hygiene items, school supplies, and anything else they might need. As you can imagine, though, the Everything Cart runs out pretty quickly, and it can be expensive to keep it stocked.
As adults, we sometimes get wrapped up in the idea that kids have it easy, that they just have to show up to school, go home, and sleep the day away. That's hardly ever true, though! Our students are athletes, showing up to early practices before we've even woken up to get ready for work. They're caretakers, getting their siblings ready for school and forgetting their own needs on their way to school. They're people with lives that get crazy and messy sometimes, the Everything Cart sees that crazy and messy and patches it up.
Now, our room is also a space of warmth and fun. One of my favorite things to hear students say is how comforting my classroom is. A lot of this coziness comes from the joy incorporated into the room, like the games students can play during the lunch hour and the reading nook. Throughout the past couple of years, the bean bag chairs and board games have been through the ringer, so we are looking for some new pillows and games to replace our roughed-up ones.
