My school is in a low income neighborhood and is a supportive work environment for me to grow as a teacher.
I came into teaching from an alternate background through the New York City Teaching Fellows and was trained over one summer and then entered the classroom.
I work in a middle school in the Bronx and have spent the last 3 years at this school learning and growing as an educator.
My Project
I am requesting books for myself to learn more about teaching. One of the things we learn in teacher training is to stop re-inventing the wheel and to learn from others who are doing great things already in education. I am requesting top books about education, educational strategies, and educational research so that I can have a library of books that I can turn to. These books would help me learn how to be a better teacher but also inspire me when I need new ideas to keep myself motivated to grow.
These resources will make a difference ultimately for my students because it will be increasing the knowledge of their teacher.
Teachers who have a larger tool kit of resources, strategies, and ideas are better able to not only teach but also to adapt to different learning and behavioral needs of the students.
