Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Isn't it great how excited kids get when they get to have choice in their learning, interact with one another and learn? Workstations allow them to speak, share their knowledge, and are hands-on. They make learning fun and interactive but we need some materials to add to our Workstation choices.
I work with a wonderful group of second graders who are energetic, inquisitive, and highly motivated to learn.
They come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of learning needs, including students with learning disabilities, English Learners, and students that are Gifted. We are an urban school located in one of the largest school districts in the country.
Although there has been a major decrease in funds for our school over the past few years, our school community has worked together to provide our students with a quality education and we are proud to be named a “California Distinguished School”. Yet, decreasing funds also means fewer resources for our students. These materials will add new and exciting learning opportunities to our Workstation time.
My Project
Your generosity will give my students many new learning opportunities. The interactive software will give access to great technology with educational interactive computer games. These math and literacy games will allow me to integrate technology into lessons that can then be practiced independently during Workstations at the computer stations.
Each student will have their personal earphones to use either at the classroom computers or with the classroom iPods. The pocket chart stand will allow for a wonderful Literacy Workstation where students can manipulate words to find spelling patterns, create poetry, or practice a myriad of literacy skills. The story wands will guide students in their literature discussions and will help them with reading comprehension. The lapboard center will provide a place where students can retrieve their own lapboards to write down their ideas, work out problems, and show their thinking. What an amazing experience this will be for both me and my students!
