My students are not unique to NYC, but unique to the rest of the country. We are a class made up of students from all over the world- Pakistan, El Salvador, Mexico, Ukraine, Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Republic of Georgia and Puerto Rico. Many students arriving from their native countries only a few years to a few weeks ago. With that being said, these children are have taken to their new homes with the bright-eyed wonder only a child could have.
This unique class amazes me everyday - they may be from all over the world, but they accept each other with open arms and kindness as if they are family.
I hope to foster this attitude with giving back to the kids with as many resources to keep them engaged and curious.
My Project
This project, if funded, will give me a chance to record videos of live lessons that will allow me to write directly onto a device.
Math is not always the easiest subject for students, and now it is even harder with distance learning.
My hope is to improve my lessons with improved technology. Having a screen that I can write directly onto word problems, be able to solve problems with complex formulas, and access to the many apps offered, would strengthen my teaching- and allow me to make my lessons in a way that keeps my voice and style - a style that my students are used to.
I see how excited these kids are to see me during our video meets, and I want to provide more multi-media forms of technology to learn from, even at home. Distance learning doesn't have to be second rate just because we aren't learning in the traditional school setting - I want it to be the best I can make it, wherever we are.
