My students need stability pads and stretchable cords. These sensory items address students need to move, yet allow them to stay seated and focus on the instruction.
"Sit down and pay attention" is what most teachers want their students to do. This isn't so easy for a 7 or 8 year old. Their bodies were designed to move. These sensory items allow students to move in their seat and pay attention to the teacher.
We live in rural Montana.
Students love to play outside in the snow. They also enjoy riding bikes, hiking, boating, hunting, snowmobiling and skiing. Parents in our school want to be involved in their children's education and work hard to help them succeed.
My Project
Stability pads allow student to make small movements in their seat without distracting others and students can stay focused on the instruction. The cords are used to go around the legs of the desk so students can pull on the cords if they need to move their hands or upper body, yet they aren't fidgeting in their desk. The greatest part is they can do this and keep their eyes on the teacher.
If students are engaged in the lesson they are going to learn more.
Sensory items such as stability pads and bungi cords tied around the desk allow students to move their bodies while they are engaged and focused on the lesson. If I can keep students engaged in the lesson the possibilities for learning are endless!
