My Students

There is nothing worse than needing a "pencil-pen" and not having one readily available. Don't you just hate it when that happens? I teach junior high science in a small rural district in southwest Mississippi where simple supplies are too often in short supply.

For those who aren't up on their current lingo, a "pencil-pen" is a mechanical pencil.

Students prefer the mechanical pencil because it has a cushioned tip that is more comfortable on their fingers. The lead is refillable so they can replace it if they run out. And they come in really cool colors! Looking cool is a must in the mind of a junior high school child.

My Project

Having a supply of mechanical pencils will make sure that all my students, regardless of the home budget, have access to a writing utensil that is comparable to those of their peers. When all the kids have the cool pencils, there's no need for any drama over a child who may not be so fortunate. This is a good thing for a child of junior high age.

In these tough economic times, any and all contributions, no matter how small or large, are appreciated far more than meager words can express.
