I need books to support a K-2 book study to reconnect and energize a team of primary teachers in our own learning to best meet the needs of ALL of our young readers!

My Students

I teach in a public alternative, creative approach, and option school in our district. Every family whose students enroll at our school has chosen to be here. We use a yearlong expeditionary learning-based approach, focused on projects, service, and the integration of an expeditionary topic with core learning objectives.

Students at our school tend to be creative thinkers, movers, and shakers!

Our school is often sought by families who want an alternative approach and/or setting for their children. We also have considerably higher numbers of students served by special education at our school than in other public schools within our district; approximately 1/3 of our student body has an IEP or a 504 plan to ensure particularly needed accommodations for learning.

The approach we use with students is hands-on and engaging, and developmentally appropriate. With so many individual student needs to reach, ongoing professional development and collaboration with colleagues are some of the most powerful tools we can use to support each of our bright and enthusiastic learners in our school community.

My Project

After a year of mostly remote and some hybrid learning and many shifts, teachers are exhausted and feel pretty disconnected from each other. We are excited about the prospect of returning to more in-person learning with our young students in the fall!

This project will support a team of K-2 teachers in pursuing a book study into the latest research and thought about effective ways to teach reading and support us in best reaching the needs of ALL of our young readers!

Working collaboratively and learning from the book and each other will result in greater cohesion in our teaching, benefitting all of our students and providing us with a rich and fun opportunity to reconnect as we grow as educators!
