My Students

"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." This wonderful quote by Ignacio Estrada is very true. My classroom lacks technology which makes it hard for me to differentiate and individualize my instruction for my students.

My district has forty-three campuses and this makes it hard for us to have a plethora of technology.

Just at my elementary campus we have one thousand students. My first grade students are eager to learn. First grade is an extremely important time as many students are now applying their previous knowledge about letters, sounds and sight words into reading. Also, their mathematics skills are growing rapidly and will become very important to them as I know I am creating lifelong learners.

My Project

In my classroom I have very little technology: two desktop computers. One of the computers is primarily used by me (the teacher) during lessons, emails, etc. Every day my students participate in stations, both reading and mathematics, and rotate around the classroom. My listening station is limited as I am only capable of giving two students access to computers. Typically each station should be set up for at least four students as I have a total of twenty in my classroom. If I had two iPads with the amazing Osmo program then my students would be fully engaged in their learning environment. The Osmo program can be used for art, word play, mathematics and science. Also, for every Osmo purchased, one can be given to another classroom for free and I would love to help others out.

My project will have a positive impact on my students' lives.

Today's students need instant gratification, and having these technology resources would give them that. I believe they will be actively engaged and fall in love with the Osmo program.
