My Students
My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of them have experienced challenges we adults could not imagine. Our diverse classrooms bring many different cultures and languages. School is a safe and engaging place for all students with different backgrounds to come together to play, build relationships, experience, learn and grow safely. My readers come to school eager and ready to engage in their day. We work hard to meet the needs of each of these students both academically and socially.
My Project
Many children learn good sportsmanship through organized sports and playing games with family and friends. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to play organized sports, and families are stretched for time with parents working multiple jobs to make ends meet.
I want my students to learn how to be good sports, whether they are winning or losing.
In order to do that, I am going to implement centers during my library class where kindergarteners will learn a new board game and practice how to handle our emotions when winning and losing.
These board games in this project have been designed to be played cooperatively and competitively. With adult supervision to help work through some of those tough emotions, my kindergarteners will learn to work together and encourage each other while playing a fun game related to our curriculum.
