Teach Me to Read...in Kindergarten!

My Students

There is nothing in the world like the look on a young child's face when she realizes she can read. As a kindergarten teacher, I am blessed to experience it several times a year.

I teach twenty-one wonderful students in an all day Kindergarten classroom in a high-need community.

They are a beautiful, multi-cultural group with differing abilities. My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and become lifelong learners. They have made my life brighter, and I would like to brighten theirs in return!

My Project

Each year in the field of education, the bar is raised. What students used to learn in kindergarten, they are now learning in preschool. As a result, kindergarten students are now learning things that were taught in first and second grades not too long ago. I am requesting a flannel board and classic storytelling kits to help my students learn to read in a creative and developmentally appropriate way! Kindergarten students must learn to read in kindergarten in order to be successful in the primary grades. My students will be able to gain necessary skills in literacy by using these storytelling materials during small group work stations.

Please help my students rise to the ever increasing standards in a way that is developmentally appropriate!

These materials will help my students learn to read in a fun and creative way! With dwindling budgets in Ohio, we are no longer able to purchase valuable materials such as these. Please bridge the gap for my students and show them that someone cares!
