My student love to learn! They love it when I learn so that they can learn more! It is exciting during our classroom meetings when we share what we are doing. They sometimes share what they love about learning new things then I share what I've learned. I attended Ron Clark Academy last spring and I show them what I learned and they LOVE IT!
It is important for students to see that learning never ends.
There are times when we are in our garden and they ask me something that I don't know the answer to. I tell them that I don't know everything and they have to learn, as I have, how to find the answer to the question we have.
The students are energized when we come back to our classroom and they start to learn how to find answers to questions they have. It is a special time when they start doing this on their own. They take the initiative and they run with it!
My Project
Last spring, I was positively impacted by a professional development experience that I was able to attend. Last May, I spent two days at Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, GA. I am pleased to say that was able to come back to my school and implement many of the methods that he had implemented at his school. What is even better is that all the students at our school in Ohio have been positively impacted by many of the methods that my partner teacher and I elected to share when we came back. This year we are implementing the house system school wide and I am setting the stage to engage within my own classroom.
The Get Your Teach On Conference in Phoenix will allow me to take my engagement of the students in our school to another level!
I will be able to further develop my skills as a teacher by attending a conference put on by Wade and Hope King, educators that teach at RCA. GYTO has 12 of our nation's leading educators sharing their knowledge and ideas to help educators engage students in the learning process, hold on to their attention through the use of technology and growing those brain cells with a few STEAM activities.
