This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This project was inspired by Mrs. Burke's Beach Buddies project. My students need to learn how fragile our ocean environment really is and how we need to protect it.
I work in a Title One school with about 98% of the students on free or reduced lunch.
Most of my students are learning English as a second language. They are sweet and eager to learn but do not have basic background knowledge. A large percentage have never seen the ocean which is only miles away. They need to learn how to protect their environment.
My Project
My students will learn about sea life and the ocean through books and other materials. They will learn about the damage pollution can cause sea life and even learn how to help the damaged birds. They will document their learning through the Go-pro camera. We have a small pond by our school that gets larger with every rainstorm. We will decorate our bags and using our gloves we will clean up the pollution left by the rain. We will record our observations with our notepads. All of this will teach my students the importance of taking care of the environment.
This project will teach my students the importance of keeping the environment clean.
It will teach them that even something as small as leaving a soda bottle on the beach can endanger wildlife and the food chain.
