My Students
Teach for the Planet will allow our students to watch tadpole to frog metamorphosis as we study environmental science. The students are energetic and love learning. They love science and would love the opportunity to actually see the life cycle of the frog instead of just reading about it.
Our students are in a high poverty area and 75% eat free or reduced lunch daily.
They come from diverse family structures; foster, migrant, single parent homes, etc. They have a mixture of personalities and learning styles. They enjoy hands on activities and really get excited when we do engaging lessons that do not require worksheets. My students are not likely to have hands on experiences and engaging lessons. Most of our lessons are from worksheets and I would love for the students to have opportunity to have a more engaging experience.
The books we have are worn and old. This does not encourage the students to want to read. Teach For the Planet will not only allow the students to have books to read but to have hands on experiences.
My Project
My students need Grow a Frog kit, Tadpole to Life books (life cycle of a frog) and tadpole food as we study the life cycle of the frog as we Teach For The Planet. The students will use the tad pole kit to observe and follow the life cycle of a frog. The books will be used in the lesson process. Students will have enough books to work in centers as they share ideas. The students will get hands-on-experiences with the frog life cycle. In the end they will have their very own class pet.
This project will allow students to watch tadpole to frog metamorphosis right before their very eyes.
They are already excited by me telling them about the possibility of getting the kit. This will be both fun and educational. Many of the students have never owned a pet and they can hardly wait. This will be a life changing experience for my students.
